Ellen Forney has given talks to numerous general audiences, college students, and teens. Most recently, she was keynote speaker at the Comics & Medicine Conference at Johns Hopkins, and presented her work at George Washington University and Rutgers University Camden.
She has previously appeared at the U.S. Embassy’s One Bosnia/Herzegovina One Book program, the Free Library of Philadelphia, Beijing Bookworm International Literary Festival, Northern Arizona University, Towson University, Virginia Wesleyan College, Montgomery College, Green River Community College, Seattle's Bumbershoot Festival, Olympia Comics Festival, San Diego Comic-Con, and Seattle Public Library.
Ellen's presentations include:
- Marbles: Mania, Depression, Michelangelo, and Me. Multimedia slideshow of Ellen’s New York Times bestselling graphic memoir, a chronicle of her struggle with bipolar disorder.
- Comics: The Extraordinary Power of Words and Pictures. A comics professor at an arts college, Ellen deconstructs this compelling literary medium, including her work in National Book Award-winning novel, The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian.
- Comics Studio with Ellen Forney (Workshop). An all-levels, hands-on workshop. Participants will leave with a comic they create themselves.
